The dignity of the human person is not being respected in Illinois. Things will not change until everyone does their part to build a respect for life.
Don’t think it’s that bad?
Here is a very short summary of some of the affronts to human life in Illinois. I hope this isn’t too much of a downer for you today, but be sure you read it all!
Minors are Not Protected:
One of the most basic regulations on abortion is requiring the parents of a minor girl to be involved in the decision. Abortion complications, after all, can kill not only the baby but also the mother.
Every single state surrounding Illinois has laws in force that make sure that the parents of a young girl are a part of this decision. Illinois, however, does not. The courts of Illinois have been blocking the Illinois Parental Notification of Abortion Act for the past 15 years. The law was pasted, but never enforced…
That means that not only are Illinois minors at risk but it makes Illinois the secret abortion capital of the Midwest. Girls cross state-lines to get abortions (or they’re brought across state-line by much older men) so that their parents don’t have to know!
Abortionists are Above the Law:
Certain abortion clinics in Illinois do not have to follow the same medical facilities standards as other regular surgical clinics. They have lower standards!
It’s interesting to note that the pro-abortion groups always say that they are pro-woman. How can you be pro-woman and pro-sub-standard women’s clinics?
Abortion groups fight fervently against any attempts to hold all abortion clinics to the same standards as say… eye clinics.
Because those groups are so powerful in Illinois they get what they want and recent attempts to raise standards were defeated.
Students are Forced to Pay for Abortion Insurance:
University of Illinois in Champaign and Northern Illinois University both have student insurance plans that cover abortion. Not only that, but students are required to have insurance in order to enroll!
That means that if a student is not covered by their parents they are virtually forced to pay for abortion through their health plans!
Cities Censor the Pro-Life Message:
The pro-life message is not very popular. It’s very important, but it’s not popular. There are several municipalities that have tried to silence the pro-life message.
There are too many details to go into them all here. However, cities such as West Chicago, Lake Zurich and Rockford have all been guilty of attempting to silence the pro-life message. (Fortunately, pro-life lawyers fight for our free speech rights and win!)
Yep, Still Above the Law:
In 2007, pro-lifers were shocked to find out that Planned Parenthood had falsified documents that it had filed with the city of Aurora in order to build the stealth ‘Aurora Abortion Fortress.’ It was, at the time, the largest abortion center in the country and it was established through lies and deception.
What did the city of Aurora do when the deception was discovered? - Nothing.
They pandered to the abortion giant that is Planned Parenthood.
They’re Everywhere!
The abortion groups seem to be everywhere. They have teen outreach groups that train and send high school students to teach their young peers about promiscuity, contraception and abortion.
They have college pro-abortion groups that push the abortion agenda on campuses among college students.
They have pro-abortion faculty members on every campus and entire departments devoted to spreading ‘reproductive rights’ (code for abortion).
They’re everywhere!
Are You Still With Me?
That’s a lot of bad news, so I hope you didn’t fall off your chair! Unfortunately, that list is just the tip of the iceberg of the Culture of Death in Illinois.
Like I said, I don’t mean to be a downer today, but this is important. You know what else is important?
Hope.
No, I don’t mean fluffy ‘Hope and Change.’ I mean we must remember that there is hope and that we are beginning to turn things around and save all those lives that are at risk for being lost.
Illinois Needs Your Help
Today, you can be a part of that hope. I’m not sure what your past involvement has been with the pro-life movement, but I really hope today you will make a commitment to start doing more.
I hope you will start doing all that you can to end abortion.
Life is Good,
John-Paul Deddens – Executive Director, Students for Life of Illinois
P.S. Watch for my next email. I’ll get in touch with you soon about some of the more interesting signs of hope that are turning up. In the meantime, let me know in the comment box below what you think you can do to help build a culture of life in Illinois.
